Take years off your complexion.

Photofacial uses intense pulse light (IPL) to reverse sun damage and diminish the appearance of age spots, rosacea, and broken capillaries for a beautiful, even complexion. IPL’s targeted beams of light disrupt pigment near skin’s surface, lifting away blemishes while also reducing your risk of skin cancer.

This treatment is ideal for the face, neck, chest, and hands. Multiple treatments may be required to achieve optimal results, and most patients benefit from three treatments scheduled six weeks apart. Results are visible within 3 weeks. Lift age spots away.

Your skin is a canvas. Over time, it begins to wear down from the sun, hormonal changes, and the passage of time. Photofacial IPL, also called photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive treatment that targets age spots, redness, and uneven pigment to take years off your complexion.

Like most heat-based treatments, IPL delivers acute, controlled injuries to the epidermis in order to encourage cell turnover and the body’s natural production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. These skin-building proteins help repair, smooth, and firm. With each treatment, IPL lifts superficial pigment to the surface where it flakes away, and disrupts deeper pigment to allow the body to flush it away.

How does IPL work?

Triton Lumecca IPL emits short blasts of high-intensity light across the surface of the skin. The light is converted into heat energy when it is absorbed by pigment in age spots, freckles, rosacea, and small blood vessels near the skin’s surface. The heat damages the cell walls so your body can naturally exfoliate or flush cells away. The heat also stimulates the body’s natural production of skin-firming proteins and enzymes like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.

While results become visible in two weeks, full results are visible at six weeks. Skin will appear more even toned and firm as skin cells and collagen is regenerated. For skin with significant pigments and redness, optimal results can be achieved with three treatments spaced six weeks apart.

What are the benefits?

  • Diminish the appearance of brown spots and freckles

  • Diminish the appearance of rosacea and redness caused by broken capillaries

  • Reduce the risk of skin cancer by eliminating hyperpigmented sun-damaged skin cells

  • Improve skin firmness and texture with new collagen production

  • Quick healing post-treatment as IPL does not break the skin barrier

What are the risks?

Like most heat-based treatments, photofacial IPL can result in burns, permanent scars, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and infection. Choose a provider you trust.

At Three Sisters Laser + Medical, we take great care to ensure our services deliver results while minimizing the risks. Our complimentary consultations include a VISIA pre-laser safety analysis to ensure your skin is ready for treatment, and our services are delivered by physician-trained professionals. Plus, with every laser skin service, we offer 10% back towards medical-grade skincare for improved skin health and healing.

Can’t stay out of the sun before or after treatment? It’s best to postpone heat-based restorative treatments until you can protect your skin from sun exposure and allow your body’s natural healing response to complete its cycle. Sun exposure before or after treatment may trigger hyperpigmentation, melasma, and permanent skin damage.

What to expect during the procedure

Photofacial IPL is a non-invasive procedure, meaning that it does not physically damage your skin barrier. Most patients liken the experience of IPL to an elastic band snapping against the skin. The laser technician will begin making several passes across your skin with the handpiece. Heat and tingling sensations can be expected as the probe moves across the skin. The laser technician will check in with you often in order to adjust the intensity of treatment. Protective eyewear must be worn at all times.

Healing and post-procedure care

It will generally take 1 week to recover from photofacial IPL treatment. Immediately following treatment, you will experience a sunburned sensation. Minimize heat in the treated area by avoiding hot bats and strenuous activity, discontinuing photo-sensitive medications and skincare, and using SPF 30+ daily to protect your skin.
